A Richmond Heights man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison in the August 2009 murder of his disabled landlord, a court official said Tuesday.
John F. Kuchler pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, armed criminal action and arson Feb. 18 and was sentenced at that time, St. Louis County Circuit Court Administrator Paul Fox said.
Kuchler's trial was set to begin Monday.
Prosecutors say Kuchler, then 42, fatally stabbed 81-year-old J.L. "Jack" Pierson, then set his home, at 1137 Surrey Hills Drive, on fire. Pierson, a retired lawyer and political activist, met Pierson through his work with the Boy Scouts. Pierson offered him a place to live because Kuchler was "at loose ends and didn't have a job," a Pierson friend told the Post-Dispatch in 2009.
Both Kuchler's lawyer and the prosecutor did not return calls seeking comment Tuesday.
