Chris Gibbons Health Update

Hi friends,

Some of my friends said I should email all my friends with an update.

Well, December 3rd was a year for me and I beat the odds and I’m still kicking.  It’s been the worse year of my life.  Still a long road and another surgery to remove some of my colon in January.

Last month they found a mass at the back of my brain.  My oncologist has not seen the scan yet and nothing official has been diagnosed.  However, I have a history of brain cancer in my family.

I’m going to work very hard to beat it if in fact it’s cancer.  I’m even scared to have a biopsy.  I’m going back to the Cancer Treatment Center’s of America in Tulsa to have my oncologist diagnose it.

I really don’t know the future but god does.  As I write this I’m crying and fear the worse.  If you got this email then it’s because I think the world of you and wanted to say thanks for being a friend.

I am right with god and am very comfortable to know that I am going to heaven one day.

Well, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, and Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what everyone had did for me and my family this past year.

In kindest spirits,
Your Friend, comrade, and brother
Chris

Fire Wash U

An electrical fire in the Bear’s Den kitchen forced evacuation of the dining hall and all of South 40 House at around 9:35 p.m. Tuesday evening. No injuries were reported.
The motor in one of the ice machines in the kitchen shorted and caused the fire.
Reports of damage were mixed.
“The damage to the facility is zero, except for the ice machine,” said Nadeem Siddiqui, resident district manager for Bon Appétit.
According to Washington University police Sgt. Ron Newbold, the sprinkler system was activated, extinguishing the fire, and there was water and smoke damage.

COUNCIL SETS 2010 PROPERTY TAX RATES

The Richmond Heights City Council approved municipal tax rates for 2010 at the regularly scheduled Council meeting on Mon., Sept. 20, 2010. The tax rate adjustment reflects a slight increase — $0.059¢ per $100 of assessed valuation — in residential real estate taxes resulting from an overall decrease to residential real estate property values over the last two years.

Residential tax rates that will be reflected on residential property tax bills this coming December are as follows:

City General Fund: 0.329¢ per $100 of assessed valuation.

Memorial Library: 0.172¢ per $100 of assessed valuation.

Police & Fire Pension Fund: 0.290¢ per $100 of assessed valuation.

Residential property owners will pay municipal taxes totaling $0.791 per $100 of assessed valuation. In 2009, they paid $0.732 per $100 of assessed valuation. Municipal taxes on a home valued at $100,000 will increase by $11.21 this year.

Maplewood firefighters receive national award

Maplewood firefighters receive national award

Washington D.C. (KSDK) -- Four Maplewood firefighters were awarded one of the nation's highest honors at the White House on Wednesday for their bravery during a 2008 fire and shooting call.

Lieutenant William Appel, Firefighter/EMT Timothy Wisely, Firefighter/Paramedic Andrew Neff, and Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Chellis received the United States Department of Justice Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor.

In July 2008, a Maplewood man set fire to his home and shot at the first responders who came to fight the fire. Firefighter Ryan Hummert was killed.

The four firefighters were among the first on the scene.

The awards were presented by Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder.

Regarding the awards, Maplewood Fire Chief Terry Merrell said, "It further validates what we already know. These men are truly heroes."

Also recognized at Wednesday's ceremony was Deputy Carl Beier with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

On September 8, 2007, Deputy Beier responded to a report of a violent disturbance at a rural residence and took fire from a suspect with an AK-47 assault rifle. The Justice Department says his actions prevented other officers from danger while standing his ground under continuous fire.
