Monarch Fire chief arrested on theft charges

MARYLAND HEIGHTS • Monarch Fire Protection District Chief Wayne "Chuck" Marsonette was arrested Tuesday on four felony theft charges, officials said.
Charging documents accuse Marsonette, 46, of O'Fallon, Mo., of misusing a business credit card given to him by a former employer between Aug. 1, 2012 and Dec. 29, 2015. Marsonette used the card for purposes unrelated to work, including guns, meals and trips to Italy, Las Vegas and California, the documents claim. He also used the card to pay his monthly cellular phone bill, for which he was already receiving a stipend of $160 a month, documents say.
Marsonette also placed items on his expense report for reimbursement when he'd used that company credit card to pay for them, documents say.
Between Dec. 16, 2013 and July 14, 2014, Marsonette charged an unidentified person more than $10,000 for flight lessons on aircraft belonging to a subsidiary of company, for which he was a pilot. But Marsonette did not reimburse the company, charging documents say.
Marsonette could not be reached for comment. Maryland Heights police said that he was still in custody. No lawyer is yet listed in court documents.
Representatives of the district could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
