The firings of four command-level officers have split the
Monarch Fire Protection District board and led to accusations of union cronyism
by some district residents. The four officers — Assistant Chief Les Crews,
Deputy Chief Cary Spiegel and Battalion Chiefs Fred Goodson and Mike Davis —
were fired Tuesday by the fire district board, which blamed them for creating a
hostile work environment for four female employees.
